  1. One way of advancing electric transport in Wellington is through the use of a trolley / battery combo called in motion charging (IMC). It should be able to be retrofitted to the existing fleet and substantially removes the arguments against trolleys. The batteries are as used in battery buses so are designed for everyday use, rather than solely emergency use. Wiring of the Miramar gap should not be required with IMC. Keeping some trolleys in operation also preserves substations for future use by light rail.

      Absolutely agree that this would have been the right way to go, and is what I advocated to the fellow councillors. We now have ten double decker battery buses, which are very expensive, slow boarding, and likely to suffer delays through downtime needed for charging.
